Apologies to the podcast

The man walked up to a group of people waiting for the B.A.R.T to arrive.

“This is what I tried to tell them,” he said, shaking his hands at the young woman who acted as if he wasn’t there. “I said: What if Hieronymus’s Triptych isn’t a vision of heaven and hell? What if it’s a realistic panorama of humanity from the point of view of God? What if that is how we really are, all of us enjoying the world in our perverse little ways, which sometimes leads to bliss and sometimes to blisters? I tried to tell them that there is something even worse than pain. It’s no pain.”

The train whooshed out of the tunnel and made people’s hair lift off their foreheads. All but the man boarded. He was alone again. He turned around and started for the people on the other side. They were waiting for the train going in the opposite direction. He would try to tell them his great insight into the nature of reality. He had been going back and forth all morning.
